About Me

United Neighbors Organization
Brooklyn, New York, United States
UNO is a Community Organization made of individual community members dedicated to the fight against the displacement of long term residents and for the protection and creation of affordable housing in North Brooklyn. We do this by: • Organizing our neighbors, • Empowering our members: learning from each other experiences, holding actions in solidarity of those being threatened by displacement, and • Developing leadership among us. We believe our families will be able to stay and enjoy our community only when: 1. Community members are part of any plan or discussion regarding any land use process that will affect their future 2. The existing affordable housing, including rent regulated apartments, continue to be available for our community 3. There are stronger laws that protect tenants from any form of displacement.

Welcome to our site

Williamsburg and Greenpoint are now known as two of the hottest neighborhoods in New York. Galleries, clubs, restaurants, hipsters and-- of course-- luxury housing. But in reality, this community is the home of hundreds of Latino, African-American, Polish and Italian working families that are at risk every day of losing their homes from the increasing waive of gentrification and real state speculation.

Our organization is a community based organization including tenants, clergy members and home owners concerned about the rapid displacement of long term neighbors, including families and seniors citizens that can not afford the high rents any more.

Our Organization’s goals are:
Organize our community to create a united front against displacement of residents in the area.

Advocate for Legislation to
Demand the creation of more affordable Housing opportunities for the poor and working families and seniors of our community.
